from the “trilogy of stereo” by Zelda Adjaye
When Bernd asked me to curate and modify some Aural Sculptures for a tribute to great music recordings, I was pretty sure that these recordings could only be found in a “distant” past. But during my desperate studies and fruitless considerations about “THE” recordings for my trilogy it hit me directly in my ears – the new album of Beyoncé: “Cowboy Carter”.
Nobody can be sure about the persistence of contemporary music for future audiences but I will take a chance: In strange sociocultural and political times, the songs demonstrate awareness, clarity and musical skills far beyond the classifying stereotypes that are present everywhere in the american society, and also in the american music business. The nice irritations among the (country) music experts have potential to outlast as perseverative anecdotes in future reviews.
Make yourself familiar with some details about the background of “Cowboy Carter”:
The acoustic appearance of “Cowboy Carter” is immaculate and homogeneous though the various songs have been recorded and engineered with many different musicians and at different locations – a feat that was unthinkable only a few years ago.
I would like to dedicate “Nashville ’16” to all music lovers who “listen without prejudice”.
